The Tate Modern's current industrial display only provides a snippit into the rich past of the brick, former power station.
I have invested the past 3 years tracking down and interviewing former workers from the power station. In doing so I have recovered and preserved the intangible and previously unexplored heritage of this iconic british building.
There is very limited material available about the previous use of the building with most material focused on it’s architects (past and present) yet nothing about the people who contributed to the running of the functioning power station on a daily basis, during it’s 40 years.
This is an ongoing, independent, non-funded, oral history research project run entirely by myself, with the sole goal of tracing and preserving this invaluable heritage therefore permitting those who are still with us today to tell us what life was like within this marvelous brick building.
This project is seeking to secure continuance as well as visibility, allowing the general public access to this invaluable information. I have further material from interviews soon to be published on this website.
