On this site there was previously a coal powered power station built in 1891 and demolished 1950s.
Was designed by the architect Sir Giles Guilbert Scott, in 1947. He designed the red telephone boxes and was also renowned as a cathedral architect, for this reason the building holds catherdral like characteristics .
